Do you ever feel alone? Even though you’re not physically alone? I have. And I’m pretty sure others have felt this way at one time or another. It’s kind of an icky feeling, right? Maybe even a little depressing or sad.
Today I’d like to write about a song that I’ve been hearing for about a week straight. I would hear it on the way to work then again on the way home. Finally I said “OK OK! I’m writing tonight!”. So here I am. I think Spirit was pushing me, what do you think? 🙂
So before I jump in, I’d like to point out that this song is by Christian band “Casting Crowns”. But can certainly be applied to whatever you believe. My favorite author, Sylvia Browne (RIP), always said “take what you want and leave the rest behind”. And so we begin.
Oh, how you worry
Oh, how you’re weary, from fearing you lost control
This was the one thing, you didn’t see coming
And no one would blame you, though
If you cried in private
If you tried to hide it away so no one knows
No one will see, if you stop believing….
So the start to this song probably relates to most of us. Could be a death, loss of a job, or you just messed up somehow. Sounds like a doozy, whatever it might be. Stress can wear us down. And I’m sure I’m not the only one that does this, but I’d rather be upset/cry/be angry in private (that might be the Capricorn in me!). I don’t like to show that side of myself.
Oh my soul, you are not alone
There’s a place where fear has to face the God you know
One more day, He will make a way
Let Him show you how, you can lay this down
‘Cause you’re not alone
I feel like this is Spirit/God/Your higher belief responding to our problem. Letting us know, or reminding us that we definitely NOT alone. It almost reminds me of Romans 8:31 – “What then shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?”
Here and now you can be honest
I won’t try to promise that someday it all works out
‘Cause this is the Valley
And even now, He is breathing on your dry bones
And there will be dancing
There will be beauty where beauty was ash and stone
This much I know
The verse refers to Ezekiel 37 1-14. The Valley of Dry Bones. I won’t quote all 14 verses (you’re relieved) but just a little bit of it. “Prophesy to these bones and say to them ‘dry bones, hear the word of the Lord!’ This is what Sovereign Lord says to these bones: I will make breath enter you, and you will come to life. (Quest study Bible)
So what I get from this is even though we go through rough patches, if we keep our hearts open, Spirit will help us come to life (clear our minds to deal with said issue).
I’m not strong enough, I can’t take anymore
(You can lay it down, You can lay it down)
And my shipwrecked faith will never get me to shore
(You can lay it down, you can lay it down)
Can He find me here
Can He keep me from going under
Oh my soul, you’re not alone
This was pretty powerful to me. As humans, we’re always whining about something, right? So even though we’re saying every reason why we can’t – we are weak, we’re losing faith etc. He wants us to just lay it all out there. Lay it on Spirit. Easier said than done, right? We can only do our best, after all we’re only human. One of my favorite quotes from Pierre Teilhard de Chardin is “We are not human beings having a spiritual experience. We are spiritual beings having a human experience”. I love this because I totally believe it 100%! We are here to experience this thing called life for a reason. Sometimes I really wonder what I was thinking when I was writing my chart on the Other Side! So with the good, bad and ugly, remember….YOU are not alone.
Listen to the song if you get a chance, it really is beautiful! Thanks for reading!
